Stiff muscles and an aching back are common. These gentle steps can help you feel more comfortable.
Gentle care at home
- Keep moving with light walking and stretching, and avoid long hours in one position.
- Use a warm compress on stiff muscles.
- Sit with your back supported and take short breaks from screens.
- Rest if a movement hurts, and return slowly.
Oil massage in Ayurveda
Abhyanga, or oil massage, is a traditional Ayurvedic practice. A gentle massage with a herbal oil is traditionally used for muscle and joint comfort. Use oils only on unbroken skin, and stop if you notice irritation.
When to see a doctor
Please see a doctor if you notice:
- Pain after a fall or injury.
- Numbness, weakness or tingling in the legs or arms.
- Pain with fever, or pain that lasts more than a few weeks.
